FIM Heritage Programme

Conserving and promoting motorcycle competition heritage.

The International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) has launched a programme aimed at conserving motorcycle competition heritage at global level and promoting this historic heritage.

Certifying the technical and historic value of competition machines forms a large and all-new part of the programme.

Protecting
and promoting

Certification protects and promotes historic and technological competition heritage through a global database and also enables organisers, through FIM Historic Events, to present these machines in action to enthusiasts, either on the world’s greatest circuits where they have raced in the past or at themed shows.

All competition
machines

The FIM Heritage programme covers all competition machines from the time when they are retired from the sporting scene, so there is no minimum age for eligible machines, bearing in mind that the period immediately following retirement is the most critical one for preserving records and information from the last season of competition and for the machine’s technical integrity.

For all generations

Our program allows the public to discover not only the machines that have marked history since the creation of the championships but also the most recent ones such as MotoGP, Superbikes or endurance machines just retired from competition.

This will breathe vital new life into the classic scene by attracting collectors and spectators from new generations and younger riders.

"The sport that stirs our passions every day has a rich and universal history.

We must not only respect its origins, but also draw strength from them to tackle future challenges.

The classic scene that we know in Europe and worldwide fuels this passion for authentic motorcycle racing heritage.

In this context, it is important to recognise technological and sporting value and also the authenticity of racing motorcycles, which is vital to ensure harmonious and beneficial development for everyone involved in this activity.

Within the Foundation created by the FIM, the FIM has decided to set up a “Heritage” programme.

Its main focus will be certifying the authenticity of racing motorcycles.
Certification will aid efforts to protect and promote them to the public thanks to the historical and technological value of these amazing pieces of machinery.

The second strand is the launch of a new series – “FIM Historic Events” – which will enable organisers to present selected motorcycles so that the public can indulge their passion with complete confidence thanks to the accuracy of the information provided.

Today, we are proud to be launching our first activities with all enthusiasts."

"The world of motorcycle collectors is a place of many passions.

Circuit racing motorcycles play an important part in it, as they bear witness to technological innovations, memorable races and historic victories on all of the world’s circuits.

These machines, which appeared at the start of the twentieth century, and all motorcycles that have followed them since then form a body of motorcycle competition heritage.

Authenticity and truthfulness have always been central to what our club, Amicale Spirit of Speed, does.

In 2016, we created a classification to explain the different categories of machines to the public in terms of both their technical characteristics and also their histories.

The FIM certification scheme, which forms part of a wider FIM Heritage programme, is being run in close partnership with our club, and has now been launched internationally.

We are proud to be playing our part in this truly groundbreaking work and thereby helping to preserve this heritage. This will aid efforts to enhance it, and the public, organisers and, of course, collectors all stand to benefit.

This philosophy and this tool, created by collectors and backed by FIM, are now assisting collectors the world over.

It is up to us, to you, to make them grow so that our passion can flourish in a fully transparent way."
